Beers, Baes and Bridge..I know, it’s a ridiculous headline, but it pretty much sums up how I spent Memorial weekend…drinking lots of beer with the baes and walking across the Brooklyn bridge.
I wasn’t looking forward to Memorial weekend because the thought of just spending it in Jersey doing nothing wasn’t very exciting. I decided to visit and reconnect with some friends in Brooklyn instead. I met old friends I haven’t seen in years, went to a few “Guyanese style” Memorial BBQ’s and even went to a Trini party where some young ons’ thought I was their age and asked me to dance . I also had a real Guyanese snow cone in Queens that was so good it reminded me of the famous Doughla snow cone I devoured as a child in Guyana.

The highlight of my weekend however was walking over the Brooklyn bridge. I felt a sense of liberty and motivation to live while inhaling the fresh air as I crossed the bridge. Somewhere along the walk I experienced a calm reassurance that everything will be just fine. I guess this is the freedom that Memorial weekend is all about.
If you haven’t walked across the Brooklyn Bridge at night before, you should at some point in your life, it is quite the experience.
Whether it was the Brooklyn Ice cream factory cone, the bridge, the baes or the fact that I felt really girly in my outfit, I’d say I was really feeling myself this weekend (channeling my inner Nicki Minaj) and took the time out to snap some pics to share with you. I trust your weekend was as great as mine was. 🙂
