So the 80 degree temperatures over the past two weeks had me convinced I was officially in Summer…
In my eagerness to be rid of the cold temps, I’ve been bothering everyone with the same question…When does summer officially start???
Since this is my first time experiencing all four seasons one after the other, I’ve been asking the more seasoned dwellers to these shores this question and getting various degrees of responses… some say its official after Memorial Weekend; others say it’s at the end of June and the list goes on…though if you ask my cousin we’re in summer as long as she can wear her shorts and go to the many backyard limes (hang outs) 🙂
I tested her theory this past weekend when we were invited to a backyard lime at her sister’s house…would you believe quite a few people were in shorts and at least two of her neighbors had similar back yard events going on?
My cousin’s backyard lime had its uniqueness. It was Hawaiian themed and guests to the event had the opportunity to pose in a makeshift photo studio with beach props for a professional photo shoot…It was a lot of fun!!
We left her backyard to visit another Guyanese lime afterwards which had all the trappings of a traditional Guyanese lime; food, drinks and music as well as the neighbors to the left and the right hosting their own and borrowing our host’s music for their entertainment…LOL
So if the weather permits; (since we’ve been transported back to winter the last two days with 50 degree weather and rain 😦 )and you’re hosting a backyard hang, let me know so I can swing by in my shorts and test my theory. Maybe your neighbors may be hosting one too that I can crash! 🙂
Pics from the Hawaiian themed lime to follow…. Aloha!
